piezo-small
Piezography printmaking is the latest incarnation of the legendary black & white inkjet processes that Jon Cone has been developing since the early 1990's. Piezography is printed using pure carbon pigment ink sets of up to seven dilutions. This process produces the smoothest possible tonality, greatest available longevity, and can produce tack sharp enlargements from medium to large format film. Jon Cone develops the Piezography ink sets. We can customize solutions for special projects including inks and software. For more info click here...
iris3047
IRIS printmaking was first introduced at Cone Editions in 1992 as an adjunct to its experimental etching, screenprint and monoprint. Today IRIS is recognized as the most aesthetically beautiful of all the inkjet mediums. Because of the unique drum mounted system, delicate Japanese papers can be printed. The inks that we use are rated for 70 years which is greater than that of Ilfochrome, C-Print and the new Fuji Crystal Archive. The inks that we use are nearly as archival as EPSON's latest inks (according to Wilhelm Imaging Research.) IRIS printmaking when first introduced was known for its fading. Today its a very rare, vintage medium with longevity superior to any readily available color photographic process. We print up to 35" x 47". For more info click here...
EPSON
EPSON printmaking has steadily improved over the years to the point that its pigment inks are now rated for 100 years longevity. EPSON still uses trace dye in some of its color components and we use a ConeColor ink set which is pure pigment to gain an edge on longevity. The surface quality of the EPSON print is "flatter" than IRIS process. However, the process is less expensive when used for color. For more info click here...
Hell 3400
The Linotype-Hell 3400 scanner which we use produces a much higher standard of quality than any other contemporary scanner. This company has long gone out of business joining IRIS Graphics as industry standards which could not keep up with the cheaper and faster revolution of the 1990s. This scanner uses an analog technology to produce better detail in both highlights and shadows of negatives and transparencies. If quality is important to your work, there should be no substitute for drum scanning. Also, because the Piezography process benefits by higher amounts of optical resolution, a Hell drum scanner offers the only solution which can get the most out of that process. TTI
The TTI 40 x 60 reprographics direct scanner was custom-built for Cone Editions in the mid-1990s. Since then we have outfitted it with a higher resolution head and non-evasive 5000k flicker-free fluorescent lighting to prevent harm to rare manuscripts and artwork when we scan. The base permits up to 40" x 60" artwork with a depth of 14". This is an exciting system for artists wishing to experiment with collage and montage. For more info click here...
